I found unboxing the Barbie Rainbow Cove Gift Set unnecessarily difficult to unbox. Upon opening the package and removing the plastic display from the cardboard backing, each doll is secured with several clear rubber bands at her feet, waist and hair. Additionally, each doll is secured to the box via plastic tags and the only way to remove them is to forcibly pull them from the package and then trim the remainder of the plastic on the back of the head. I feel like the packaging design on this set is overkill and I was disappointed because it is hard to avoid actually cutting strands of their hair when you are cutting the rubber bands and then the plastic tag pieces. I checked Amazon.com and at least for now, there is no frustration free packaging option so make sure you come prepared when you unbox it. You’ll need a good pair of scissors, muscle power and an extra dose of patience for the day.
Playing with the Barbie dolls reminded me of being a little girl. I loved that Barbie has stayed true to what they are good at with the dolls. Each doll is dressed to color perfection, representing her color of the rainbow perfectly from her hair to her removable shoes. The whole point of Barbie is being able to take care of and style her hair, change her clothes and use your imagination to play for hours. I think the Rainbow Cove Set stays true to this vision and offers a lot of imaginative playtime for any kid.
I generally love Barbie as a rule but I really liked how the Barbie Dreamtopia Rainbow Cove Set stays true to the things we know and love about this brand. Each doll is adorable and brightly colored. They also have removable and interchangeable outfits, shoes and hair accessories. Having 7 dolls is much more fun when they can interact together and the pieces are interchangeable.
I did not enjoy opening this box. I do not have any complaints with the toy itself but the packaging was a nightmare to open. The price point is also a little high on the gift set. If I do the math I realize that it isn’t that expensive when you consider the price per doll. But I did get a little sticker shock when I first saw the price on it.
Like most Barbie brand toys this gift set is recommended for children three and older with no “end” age on the upper side of the recommendation. I love all the accessory pieces but they are a choking hazard for young children and I would recommend having a good system for keeping everything together. One, you don’t want the Barbie Dreamtopia Rainbow Cover 7 Doll Gift Set to lose its appeal because many of the pieces are missing. Secondly, I would worry about a younger sibling getting their hands on the little shoes or hair accessories and choking on these pieces. I think the it has a good replay value and will hold the attention of children throughout a long age period. Especially if you are able to include other Barbie sets like the other pieces to the Barbie Dreamtopia collection.
My final thoughts regarding the Barbie Dreamtopia Rainbow Cover 7 Doll Gift Set is that if your child loves Barbie, they will love the Dreamtopia set. They are unique because of the big bright colored hair and outfits. I love that they pair perfectly with the other members of the Barbie Dreamtopia set and still pair well with other Barbie sets your child may already have. The price point is a little steep at first look but once you do consider the average price per doll it can be considered reasonable. The affordability of this toy comes in because it has years of replay value when included with other affordable Barbie pieces. I would recommend this toy for anyone looking to start or add to your child’s Barbie collection. However, buyer beware, keep in mind with your purchase that you will need a decent system for keeping all the small accessories in place and you may need a nap after the exhausting unboxing experience.
