I love a crafting toy and I love toys that think outside the box. Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty, Mixed By Me Thinking Putty Kit certainly checked both these boxes for me. I had a lot of fun creating my own “galaxy purple putty”.
Opening up this kit was easy and set up was even easier. Inside the kit there were 5 tins of clear putty as well as a tin with several “special effect” putty baggies and concentrated colored putty for mixing. The kit also comes with an activity guide which is made to walk you through each of the steps.
The Playtime Experience
The Crazy Aaron’s activity guide walks you through the simple process of creating your own Thinking Putty. First step is to pick your color, the concentrated color putty only comes in red and blue but I mixed them together for a very pretty purple color. It doesn’t take much of the colored putty to successfully color your clear putty so start small and add in if necessary. The best part of this step was I didn’t get any color transfer on my hands and there was no mess!
The second step is where you add the “special effects” putty to the mix. There are three “special effects” putties, one for glowing in the dark, one for glitter and one for a shimmery effect. I added lots of glitter and shimmer to mine and the result was pretty cool. Plus, again there was no transfer to my hands or work area.
The third and final step is naming your Putty and coloring the label on the top of the tin with the included colored pencils. After this is complete you have officially completed your very own Thinking Putty.
Things I Liked
I love the activity guide. It made a great surface for mixing the putty and keeping things easy to follow.
Things I Didn't Like
I wish there had been more primary colors included in the concentrated colored putty.
Appropriate Ages
Crazy Aarons Putty kit is recommended for makers 8 and older. I think kids slightly younger could definitely enjoy this however. As long as they weren’t young enough to mistakenly eat it, the instructions were easy to follow and children as young as 5 would easily be able to follow the directions with a little help.
Final Note
I wasn’t sure how Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty, Mixed By Me Thinking Putty Kit would stand up to my expectations. I expected a lot more mess with the color concentrated putties but it ended up pleasantly surprising me by being able to play with no mess and no clean up. I ended up naming my putty “Galaxy Purple” because the shimmering and glitter putties added a really cool effect.
