My son has loved music and dancing since he was very small. I am also excited to find toys specific to a young player than include these elements and the Fisher-Price Bright Beats Build-a-Beat Stacker has a great way to include music and some very basic level coding play.

Unboxing

The Bright Beat Builder is packaged openly and attractively. It is also easy to get open and ready for play. I did use my scissors but I was ready to play in just a few moments, without frustration. What’s even better is it is packaged with demo batteries so it is really ready to go right out of the package.

The Playtime Experience

This toy has two modes of play, which are actually very similar. The first mode plays songs when you stack the “boogies” (as they are called in the package directions) and the song changes depending on which and how many boogies are in the stack when you press down on the base. The second mode is where I get the most “coding” feel. In the second mode, each boogie makes a different beat or instrument sound. As you add them and press them down on the base you watch the song come to life with the different beats and instruments you have added. For parents, there is also an on/off and volume adjust slider on the main unit of the toy.

Things I Liked

I really like everything about this toy I liked the little songs and the adorable design and I liked how when everything stacked together.

Things I Didn't Like

This isn’t necessarily a draw back for me on the toy but my only “head-scratching” type moment was why this toy requires you to press down on the boogies to recognize which ones are there. It would have improved it if they were automatically recognized by the main unit during play time.

Appropriate Ages

This Fisher-Price toy is recommended for musical players as young as 6months and to 3 years of age per the package instructions. However, I think this toy holds relevance beyond that 3 year age mark, at least for a little while.

Final Note

I really liked my play time with the Fisher-Price Bright Beats Build-a-Beat Stacker. It is a great little music toy and I love that it has a small “coding” element to the play experience. I think this is a good buy for the price point and will see a lot of play time.
