Unboxing

The Cotton candy maker comes as one main unit and in a large box. There is minimal assembly needed to get started. I had to wash all the pieces including the inside of the dispenser, clip the dispenser guard on, attach the extractor head and find which hard candy I wanted to use for my first treat. The only other included accessories were two reusable cotton candy cones and a scoop for flossing sugar.

The Playtime Experience

The play time with this cotton candy maker was incredibly easy. I expected it to be a lot more complicated than it was and was pleasantly surprised. You can use flossing sugar or hard candy (can include sugar free) to begin. Place no more than 1 scoop of flossing sugar OR 2 pieces of hard candy in the extractor head. Turn on the unit and the extractor head will begin to spin quickly over a heating element. After a few moments, the cotton candy webs will begin to appear in the dispenser area, at this point you put the cotton candy cones in the dispenser and spin it in your hand while turning it around the dispenser area. The cotton candy will start sticking together and with a little practice you will have a perfect looking cotton candy fluff on your cone in no time. If you want more cotton candy, just turn off the unit, add two more pieces of candy or a scoop more of flossing sugar, and start the process over again. Clean up was easy as well, I was able to wipe out the dispenser area and the extractor head (once cooled) was given a rinse. The extractor head does a good job of clearing itself out so there wasn’t any left over melted candy to clean.

Things I Liked

I used jolly ranchers for my first cotton candy experience. I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to do and how quickly I got good at turning It on to the cone. I think I will try breaking all the pieces up next time instead of putting them in their whole and see if I get even better results.

Appropriate Ages

I didn’t see a recommended age on the box for the cotton candy maker. The heating element and the extractor head get really really hot though so any play with this should be adult supervised.

Final Note

Even though the Hard & Sugar-Free Candy Cotton Candy Maker ended up being more of a small appliance that a children’s play toy. It is very cute and makes the whole process incredibly easy. I really liked my play time with it and look forward to trying new flavor combinations and many different types of hard candy.
