My son loves to watch The Lion Guard on Disney Channel. This band of animal friends work together in each episode to protect the Pridelands, all while teaching kids about teamwork and the importance of working together. I was excited to receive my Just Play Lion Guard Training Lair Playset and was surprised by how big it was!

Unboxing

Unboxing this Lion Guard Playset took about 20 minutes. There are a lot of pieces because the set is over 3 foot tall. Thus there are many twist clips, plastic ties and zip ties to clip, cut and remove.

Once everything is removed from the packaging you’ll have some assembly to get started. The instructions do a great job of walking you through the set up though so things go pretty quickly there. After setup is complete you are ready to play with your included action figures Janga and Kion.

The Playtime Experience

There is no shortage of things to do on the Just Play Lion Guard Training Lair Playset. There are multiple levels of play with plenty of levers, buttons and interactive stations. There are no sounds or music with this set but I didn’t really miss them. I did however miss the other members of the Lion Guard. This set only comes with one hyena (who are the bad guys) named Janga and one member of the Lion Guard, Kion. The training lair really would have benefitted from the other members of the team and I would highly recommend purchasing those with this set.

Things I Liked

I love that this set encourages hands-on imagination play and is based on a favorite Disney show. This tells me that this toy will see a lot of play time and will remain relevant for a long time.

Things I Didn't Like

I did not like that the other members of the Lion Guard have to be purchased separately. I think for the price of this set I expected to have more of the main characters. The size of the set really requires more of Lion Guard members to get the full value.

Appropriate Ages

There are several small pieces that could be broken off and become a choking hazard if not careful. So players over 3 are recommended for the Just Play Lion Guard Training Lair Playset. That being said I think this toy has a long play life. The show appeals to kids of all ages and the size of the set allows for multiple players without fighting.

Final Note

The purchase price on the Just Play Lion Guard Training Lair was on the higher side for a play set but the set is HUGE. Standing over 3 foot tall once fully assembled there really is no shortage of entertainment and things to do. I would purchase again for my son but I would make sure I had all the members of the Lion Guard to go with it. I am disappointed that I have to purchase additional pieces but it will add a lot of value to this toy and keep it relevant so it doesn’t just sit in a corner of the play room.
