I’ve played with several cash register play sets and when I came across the Learning Resources Teaching ATM Bank I had to see how different it was from my other, more grocery-based, playsets. This was actually really neat and does a great job of teaching math, money-exchange and more!

Unboxing

The ATM bank is packaged in a clear faced box and held in the package with twist clips. Once these are removed all the accessory pieces are inside the ATM in clear plastic bags. The bank requires 3 AA batteries be installed in order to play.

The Playtime Experience

This ATM bank is actually very well done. There are several different forms of U.S. currency including dimes, nickels, pennies, and quarters as well as paper money in the form of 5 and 1 dollar bills. The bank has an on/off button as well as several number buttons and also includes an ATM card slot for the including bank card.

When starting to play you turn on the ATM and insert the bank card. It will ask for a PIN, which by default is 1111 and can be reset to any four numbers you choose. Once the PIN has been entered, the bank will show the last known balance for your “account”, for the first play this is zero and after that it is the last balance you left it at before turning it off. There is a coin slot where you can deposit the various coins and the ATM automatically tallies how much has been deposited. The cash money has to be input using the deposit money button, entering how much you are depositing, and the rolling the cash through the cash slot on the front of the bank. If you want to withdraw, push the withdraw button and enter the amount, then pull the money from the inside of the bank. The bank automatically keeps track of how much you have deposited and withdrew so it can show your proper “account” balance at each play.
