Last holiday season, kids couldn’t get enough of Hatchimals. The idea of a surprise opening, and a “live” chick hatching all on its own had the world going completely nuts. Well the next toy to fly off the shelves is the Little Live Pets Surprise Chick House which plays off the hype from the previous holiday season. Little Live Pets did a great job with this set and I can see why they are selling out everywhere!

Unboxing

The set I have includes the Surprise Chick and the habitat. You can purchase the Surprise Chicks/Eggs alone to add to this set. Unboxing this set takes a little patience because it is secured with twist clips, rubber bands, cardboard place holders and plastic ties. However, I was ready to play within in a few minutes by using my scissors. Included in the kit is a detailed list of picture instructions to detail how the toy works and all the interactions available within the set.

The Playtime Experience

When you open up this Surprise Chick House the chick is still in his egg. The instructions tell you to remove the plastic clip from the bottom of the egg and set it on the stand inside the habitat. Within seconds you can hear the chick “pecking” on the inside of the egg and shortly he hatches himself! There are many options with the Surprise Chick including a limited-edition gold chick. I got a little white chick with teal designed wings, named Beaky.

Once the chick is hatched from the egg, it will hop around its habitat or on a smooth surface while it explores. It tweets, chirps and hops around just like a real chick! When you pet the chick’s head the chick with chirp in delight, keep petting his head and he will even sing a little song.

There is an on/off switch on the bottom of the chick however, if he/she is left alone for 20 minutes it will go into sleep mode until you awaken it.

Things I Liked

I love that this chick looks, feels and moves like a real baby chick. I also love that it is a surprise egg type of opening and there are many chicks to collect in this Little Live Pets collection.

Final Note

I am super impressed with the Little Live Pets Surprise Chick House. This set is flying off shelves and looks to be the “next big thing” after the Hatchimal craze. While Hatchimals had many stages and learning, Little Live Pets has an edge because you can reset the hatching over and over again. Also by putting the “limited-edition” surprise chick out there, they are sure to have kids wanting more and more eggs in search for that very special golden chick. The price point is really affordable to fund that continued collecting so parents everywhere can breathe a sigh of relief!
