Dreamworks Studios has paired with Nabi tablet makers to bring us the next Andriod based tablet designed for kids learning and internet safety. The Nabi DreamTab HD8 was fun to play with, while being great for kids and parents.

Unboxing

The box that the Nabi DreamTab comes in was very nice. It is black and very sturdy and once opened there is thick foam along the bottom and sides for safe packing and shipping of your DreamTab. The inside of the box smells somewhat like a new car actually and inside there are instructions and a wall charger to go with your new tablet.

The Playtime Experience

I had to charge my DreamTab for about 2 hours the first time to get a full charge. I also had to download a system update and go through the set up process before playtime could begin. Nabi takes child safety very seriously and doesn’t allow the web browser or some applications to be accessed until you acknowledge their privacy practices with a one-time $0.50 surcharge. The home page shows the affiliation with DreamWorks by showing off some of our favorite characters like Shrek and Toothless. There are several educational games based on more DreamWorks characters from Madagascar and much more. The front and rear facing camera are great for taking pictures and video.

Things I Liked

I like Nabi tablets because they are very secure. I was able to create multiple child accounts and the parent account allows me to set time and content limits for each child.

Things I Didn't Like

I did not like that with the pre-loaded applications the tablet only has about 7 gb of free space. It does have the option for expandable memory with an SD card you can buy separately however.

Appropriate Ages

The Nabi DreamTab is recommended for children aged 6-10. The kid safe web-browser is great for this age range because it gives them access to appropriate content without having free reign of the internet with the dangers that go with it.

Final Note

I loved my play time with the Nabi DreamTab. The parent features were great without taking away from the kid friendly experience. I think it has great potential as a kids tablet that will grow with the child. I would strongly recommend that you purchase an SD card however, due to limited storage space.
