I love playing with Nerf guns and unique guns tend to be my favorite. Nerf has outdone themselves with the new Nerf N-Strike Mega Mega Mastodon.

Unboxing

I ordered my Mastodon from Amazon.com with the frustration free packaging option. It was shipped to me with the gun and a box with the attachments separately. To assemble the Mastodon you have to assemble the three pieces of the barrel and clip in protectors for the barrel as well as the carry strap. Nerf N-Strike Mega Mega Mastodon

The Playtime Experience

The Nerf N-Strike Mega Mega Mastodon is HUGE. I am about 5’4’’ and this gun was difficult for me to hold on to without the strap. It takes 6 D batteries to operate and while it makes the power and range of this gun great, it also makes it more heavy. I found it easiest to fire this gun without trying to raise it to aim. Things I Liked

I like how well everything fits together when you assemble the gun and how unique the Mastodon is. The power and speed that this gun has is unmatched in any gun I have reviewed before.

Things I Didn't Like

I know the purpose of this gun is that it’s a BIG nerf gun. However, I found this gun to almost be too big to be used reasonably. Also using 6 D batteries makes this gun a “batter-eater” and that’s a big dislike of mine as a mom.

Appropriate Ages

As with most Nerf products our Nerf N-Strike Mega Mega Mastodon is recommended for those aged over 8. Now keep in mind how big and heavy this gun is. It may be difficult for small children to handle or carry this gun.

Final Note

I enjoyed playing with the Nerf N-Strike Mega Mega Mastodon however, I think this gun is better as a hobby or showpiece. It’s size doesn’t really make it practical if actually plan to use it in a “nerf battle”. I would only buy it again if it was to add to a collection but I would likely never use it in battle myself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wu-CviR_f9c (You may also like: 69 Best NERF Guns for Epic Pretend Play Battles)
