Drones are among the most popular toys in the RC world right now. I have been lucky enough to play with and review many drones including this Sky Viper Hover Racers Game Enhanced Battle and Racing Drone.

Age Range: 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 year olds

As with most drones I have unboxed the Sky Viper requires a little patience and definitely a good pair of scissors. There are plastic clips to twist and zip ties to cut. But after a few minutes this drone is all unboxed and ready for a good charge. Included in the packaging is the Sky Viper Drone itself, a remote control with detachable smart phone holder, a USB charger for the drone, and four beacons which are used for game play. There are also several replacement parts just in case. Sky Viper Hover Racers Game Enhanced Battle Racing Drone

The Playtime Experience

In order to get started playing you will not only need to charge the battery for the Sky Viper Drone but you will also need to take stock out in batteries. The remote control requires 3 AAA batteries and each of the beacons require 2 AAA batteries…..there are four of them…and the Sky Viper won’t operate without them. You will also want to download each of the Sky Viper applications to your smart device. One is a flight simulator so you can practice flying when you aren’t near your drone and one to access the onboard camera and other special features of the drone. I wasn’t overly impressed with the quality of this toy and it seems to be a running theme among other users. Unfortunately, my Sky Viper was giving me a hard time in a number of ways. First, it wouldn’t connect with the remote, then it was connecting and the drone wouldn’t launch the drone. Lastly, the drone wouldn’t emit a Wi-Fi signal so I couldn’t use the app to connect with the drone properly and access the camera. Hover Racers Game Enhanced Battle and Racing Drone Review

Things I Liked

I like that the Sky Viper has an application that allows for flight simulation because I am terrible at flying drones and this helps a lot.

Things I Didn't Like

There were actually multiple things that I didn’t like about the Sky Viper Hover Racer Game Enhanced Battle and Racing Drone - Black 2016 Edition. The battery requirement is obnoxious and the amount of time I spent fighting this Drone didn’t compare to any enjoyment I might have had.

Appropriate Ages

The Sky Viper is recommended for players 12 years of age and older. I can only guess this is because of the multiple different ways to fly this drone and the beacons/racing ability all add an extra difficulty level.

Final Note

I probably wouldn’t purchase the Sky Viper Hover Racer Game Enhanced Battle and Racing Drone - Black 2016 Edition again. I just had so many issues with it I couldn’t justify putting in that much effort when I have played with multiple Drone sets a lot better than this one. The Beacons add a different element in the racing abilities of this Drone but they are required to be at least 6 ft apart and with four of them I would be hard-pressed to find a room indoors large enough to accommodate those space specifications. Honestly, the Sky Viper doesn’t seem to get great reviews all around so for the price I would go for something else. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulWLjQNZL6o (You may also like: 20 Best Kid-Friendly Drones That Won't Break with One Crash)
