Unboxing the Treasure Mountain Train Adventure was actually really time consuming and frustrating. I would recommend getting this toy from Amazon.com with the frustration free packaging option. Sometimes it is actually cheaper to do so and in the case of this toy, it will save you a lot of time and energy. Once unboxed there are several pieces of straight track, curved track, a bridge, crane, and the actual Treasure Mountain piece. There are several other pieces including shapes for the Treasure Mountain shape sorter, the Smart moving train and several stickers to bring the whole set to life.
The Playtime Experience
I sat down and played with this toy with my 1 year old son. He loved all the track pieces and watching the train run along the track. It took me quite a while to figure out how everything fit together. There are several possible track combinations however and the instruction manual includes several suggested combinations and diagrams. My son seemed to like watching the train best but also enjoyed playing with the crane and shape sorter.
Things I Liked
I liked the train and how easily it followed the track. The little songs and sayings that go with the train are very cute and held my sons attention very well. I also liked the safety feature in the train that turns the wheels off if it hits and obstacle or is obstructed in any way. Vtech was thinking about their age group with this toy and this safety prevents the train from burning itself out when obstructions and de-railings are bound to happen. The pieces are all very durable and sure to withstand the rough play that they will receive.
Things I Didn't Like
The VTech Go! Go! Smart Wheels Treasure Mountain Train Adventure is a great toy and does a great job of teaching find motor skills and keeping small children entertained. However, the shape sorter in the Mountain portion of this toy could have been better if the shapes didn’t all look so much alike. My son was really interested in making the pieces fit and using the shape sorter but he had a hard time using the right shape because they are all very rounded.
This Treasure Mountain Train Adventure toy is marketed for kids aged 1-5. I am not sure it will last until children are 5 as it is a rather simple toy once set up. However, there is plenty of imagination play that can be done so if added with other Go!Go! Smart toys it has great potential. Like I said, my 1 year old loves it!
I found the VTech Go! Go! Smart Wheels Treasure Mountain Train Adventure to be inexpensive and worth the purchase. I would gladly purchase again, especially seeing how much my son liked it. I think the shape sorter has room for improvement but it is a good toy in all.
